Sony HDR SR10 4MP 40GB High Definition Hard Drive Handycam Camcorder with 15x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Sony HDR-SR10 4MP 40GB High Definition Hard Drive Handycam Camcorder with 15x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom records video to a built-in 40GB hard disk drive * 40GB holds approximately: * Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio recording from built-in microphone * slot for optional Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick PRO Duo * 2-11/16″ widescreen touchpanel LCD * 16:9 widescreen mode for video and digital photos *
Customer Review: Excellent camcorder
Overall, it is very satisfactory.

Pros: Light weight Easy to learn and operate, Good video picture quality (I like the slow motion video quality), Big storage (40GB is big enough)

Cons: Included battery (FH60) is ok, but FH70 would be better. AVCHD format to MPEG is not perfect. Uploading from computer hard dist to camcorder hard disk is not possible (in order to play on TV, I need to bring my laptop to TV). No view finder (but, it is ok since the SR11 w/t view finder costs lot more than SR10).
Customer Review: Decent entry model into Full-HD
I got it for $750 at Dell actually, which was the best I found without a risk of using potential fraud-sellers I found on google selling it cheaper. I think it is a good entry model into HD filming. It is probably the cheapest of the decent full-HD ones.
I am satisfied with the quality of the video. I believe that the more expensive models might have better video quality supported by better sensors, bigger lenses and better lower compression/quicker memory write times, but I think it is a good toy that will allow me to watch family videos 20 years from now without laughing at the quality of SD camcorders.
I am not very satisfied with the quality of the stills, but hey, I have a compact Canon S3 IS for that, so I would not count it for the rating. My S3 also records videos that are decent, but not perfect – that’s why I am getting an HD camcorder. Otherwise I’d say the S3 beats SD camcorder.
The 40GB HDD allows for too many hours of videos and can be accessed as USB Mass Memory device, so you can put other stuff there too.
The battery life seems a bit shortish, but you can get a bigger replacement battery for $30 – a cheap upgrade.
It also lacks a carrying case, so I recommend getting at least the cheapest sony one. Overall Sony accessories are very pricey, but you can get cheap replacements that work OK.
The AVCHD format does not have a lot support yet, but that will come eventually, since Sony seems to be winning the HD formats war. I believe new Macs should be able to play AVCHD. I also ordered Sony Vegas software for editing (less than $100), that looks OK from the trial version, so you might consider it, unless you want to convert to AVI/WMV before you do the editing in Windows Movie Maker and lose quality through repeated compression. I also considered Pinnacle Studio, but read the reviews with complaints about crashes and decided to get the software from Sony (through Amazon :) ).
There are probably better cameras, but they are more expensive. Sony wants to rip you off with its accessory prices, but that’s their right and you can choose replacements. It’s not perfect so I guess it is worth 4 stars

Remember to get that carrying case, a tripod and a battery somewhere. A mini hdmi cable might be of use too.

Customer Review: Samsung SCX105L MPEG4 Sports Camcorder
This product now lies dead in my office. I don’t have the heart to actually through it out, which I will eventually have to do. Yes, through it away…as in, put it in the garbage, all $700 of it.
The sound system in the camera has an intolerable intermittent crackling sound, very loud. The external camera is utterly worthless in that once it is turned on it will not turn off…ever. When it is on it sends a completely erratic and distorted picture image to the camera. The only way this product could possible be used is if I was willing to record an entirely different sound track and then match the video and sound together…what a hassle.
The camera is past it’s warranty and I am stuck with it…total junk.
Customer Review: A honest review of the SC X105L.
I wrote an honest review of the SC-X105L this fall – read it and hope for the perfect helmet camera system – the SCX105L is not it!

There is a good usability review over at http://helmetcameracentral.com - look under the reviews section. The variety of videos on this site also represents a good slice of the conditions under which people use helmet camera systems.

Panasonic VDR-D50 DVD Camcorder with 42x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

Panasonic VDR D50 DVD Camcorder with 42x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Panasonic VDR-D50 DVD Camcorder with 42x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom When it comes to shooting videos, simpler is better. Panasonic DVD camcorders make it exceptionally easy to capture your precious memories directly onto several DVD formats (DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R/DL) and SD Cards. When you finish shooting, just take the disc out of the camcorder and slip it right into your DVD player or recorder for immediate playback – there’s no need to connect any cables. Imagine taking video shots on a moving boat and then viewing them on a large-screen TV. They’re likely to appear blurry from the boat’s movement and from your unsteady hands. Panasonic solves this problem with O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), which minimizes handshake in situations where it is most often a problem, such as with zoom shots – or on a moving boat. The system is optical, so there is no quality loss, and images look clear and beautiful on a big-screen TV. 37mm Filter Diameter F1.9 (Wide) – F4.3 (Tele) Shutter Speed – 1/30-1/8000 sec (Motion Image), 1/30-1/500 sec (Still Image) 2.7 Wide LCD Monitor Built-in SD/SDHC Slot Accepts 8cm, DVD-RAM, DVD-R DL, DVD-R/RW Stereo Zoom Microphone with Wind Noise Reduction Recording / Playback Mode – XP (10 Mbps/VBR), SP (5Mbps/VBR), LP (2.5Mbps/VBR) Recording Format – MPEG2 (Motion Image) Audio Recording Format – Dolby Digital 2-channel Recording Time – DVD-RAM/DVD-RW – XP(36mins)/SP(74mins)/LP(150mins), DVD-R DL – XP(35mins)/SP(69mins)/LP(138mins), DVD-R – XP(18min)/SP(37mins)/LP(75mins) Still Picture – JPEG format at 0.3MP (640 x 480) resolution Connectors – AV out, Analog Out, USB 2.0 Approximate Unit Dimensions – 3.52(H) x 2.08(W) x 5.06(D) Approximate Unit Weight – 0.88lbs
